The relevant person in charge of the China Iron and Steel Industry Association stated at the 2022 Global Low-Carbon Metallurgy Innovation Forum and the 8th Baosteel Academic Annual Conference on the 16th that the low-carbon transformation of the steel industry requires all parties to gather more consensus and positive forces, and work together to achieve low-carbon The road to green development. In order to effectively promote the development of low-carbon technology in China’s iron and steel industry, China Iron and Steel Association proposed the “World Frontier Low-Carbon Common Technology Development Support Plan”.
According to reports, the “World Frontier Low-Carbon Common Technology Development Support Plan” proposed by China Iron and Steel Association lists the list of frontier low-carbon common technologies that need to be developed and supported, including hydrogen-rich or all-hydrogen-based direct reduction technology, hydrogen-rich carbon Circulating blast furnace technology, hydrogen-based smelting reduction technology, near-zero carbon row electric furnace process technology, steel near-end shape manufacturing technology, high-scrap ratio high-efficiency converter technology, metallurgical slag sensible heat recovery and efficient resource utilization technology, etc.
The person in charge of the world steel association believes that steel is a recyclable green material, and the steel industry has always been an important foundation supporting the development of the modern world. Iron and steel enterprises should follow the idea of circular economy, carry out ecological design with the concept of the whole life cycle, and continuously extend the service life of steel products and broaden the use scenarios. At present, global iron and steel enterprises are working on different emission reduction paths and exploring various possibilities of carbon emission reduction technologies. For example, the European Union and North America are developing hydrogen reduction metallurgical processes.
He also pointed out that Asian iron and steel enterprises still rely heavily on blast furnaces. It is estimated that by 2050, 50% of steel products will still be produced by blast furnace technology. In this context, Baowu Group seeks innovative breakthroughs by exploring hydrogen-rich carbon cycle oxygen blast furnace technology, which is of positive significance to the reduction of emissions in the steel industry.
Chen Derong, chairman of Baowu Group, introduced that Baowu Group has further promoted the “double carbon” action in recent years. Demonstration and other aspects have made new progress.
In July 2022, the world’s first 400 cubic meter industrial-grade hydrogen-carbon-rich cycle oxygen blast furnace (HyCROF) was ignited and put into operation at Bayi Iron and Steel in Xinjiang. After three months of industrial tests, solid fuel consumption has been reduced by 30%, and carbon emissions have been reduced by more than 20%. The new process is safe, stable, smooth, efficient, strong in anti-fluctuation, low in manufacturing cost, and compatible with traditional manufacturing processes. Good features.
The success of this new process represents a solid step taken by Baowu Group in the construction of the source of low-carbon metallurgical original technology, and has achieved a new breakthrough in global green low-carbon metallurgy technology, leading the world’s iron and steel industry in the direction of low-carbon transformation and development of long-process smelting blast furnaces . Baowu Group has carried out the work of gradually expanding the process, and plans to transform the existing traditional blast furnace with a scale of more than 1,000 cubic meters into a commercial HyCROF device in 2023, providing Baowu solutions for global green and low-carbon smelting.
