With the rapid growth in sales of new energy vehicles, the structure of new energy vehicles has been refined, and the requirements of its molds for processing technology are constantly changing; the “lightweight”, “ultra-long battery life” and “energy saving” that new energy vehicles have been seeking More tests for mold processing.
The design team headed by Tesla’s new energy vehicle has worked hard towards a more streamlined structure and fewer parts. The structure of the parts has been greatly innovatively changed, from riveting and welding processes directly to integral die-casting molds. Molded parts, reducing thousands of parts of the entire car into seven main bodies: roof, floor, left/right doors, front/rear bags, and battery packs. According to this design, the mold becomes larger, the structure is more complicated, and the requirements for the machine tool become higher.
As the mold becomes larger, the machine tool must have sufficient rigidity to output good accuracy. In order to adapt to the evolution of new molds, Makino improved the U1310’s hardware so that it can load up to 12 tons. This design is extremely challenging for the machine tool itself.
The unique U1310 realizes ultra-high-precision and high-speed machining. For the machining of super-large parts, the workbench adopts a fixed design, and each axis is stacked on the machine casting. After the machine tool is loaded, the load of each axis remains constant and the output is stable. U1310 has unprecedented versatility and high productivity characteristics, and is widely applicable to all industries.
1. High-rigidity mechanical structure
When the load is 6,000kg, the measured value of the surface deformation of the worktable is less than 10μm.
During the processing of large molds, electrical discharge machining will generate a lot of heat. U1310 bed castings are used as water tanks. During the processing, the chiller controls the constant temperature of the machining fluid at ±1°C in real time, and the castings and water temperatures also maintain a constant temperature simultaneously.
2. Convenient operability
With a programmable three-sided lifting working tank system, the user-friendly design can provide the convenience of the required operations for workpiece installation and adjustment, and at the same time simplifies the automatic operation process.
Even large workpieces can be easily installed.
3. Superior processing performance
When using immersion processing, the maximum processing thickness can reach 500mm (※Optional specifications: when the Z-axis height specification is 620mm, the immersion processing workpiece thickness can reach 600mm).
In addition, considering the processing characteristics of the actual mold, the overall thickness is very thick, and the actual processing part is relatively small, only 30~100mm. Usually such features will cause the processing efficiency to drop exponentially, while the accuracy is difficult to guarantee. In response to this feature, increasing the upper and lower jets has become the best choice for improving processing efficiency-U1310 provides super large water flow with upper and lower independent water supply systems to ensure cooling and chip removal in the processing area, and to provide size assurance. In terms of processing power, with the super-large water flow, Makino’s newly developed φ0.4mm processing parameters increase processing efficiency by 77%.

While ensuring the processing accuracy, Makino’s self-contained high-pressure water flow automatic threading has become an indispensable weapon for this die-casting mold. The height of the full stroke is 620mm, and the water flow guides the copper wire to complete the automatic threading, which realizes a breakthrough in the large mold without human intervention.
