In early May, in the Yunnan Green Aluminum Innovation Industrial Park located in Yanshan County, Wenshan Prefecture, the project construction was hot. In the park, Yunnan Hongtai New Materials Co., Ltd. and Yunnan Innovation Alloy Co., Ltd. were put into production in September and November 2020, respectively. As two companies that are closely integrated in the industrial chain, the primary aluminum produced by Yunnan Hongtai is transported to Yunnan Innovation Alloy Co., Ltd., and then cast into aluminum alloy bars of different sizes and sold all over the country. “We produce according to customer needs. At present, 9 lines operate in three shifts 24 hours a day, with a daily production capacity of 1,100 tons.” said Xu Dehu, director of the production workshop of Yunnan Innovation Alloy Co., Ltd.
The development of electrolytic aluminum industry requires two major resources, electricity and alumina. The hydropower resources of Yunnan Province ranks second in the country, and it has the energy advantage to develop the green aluminum industry. At the same time, Wenshan Prefecture is rich in bauxite resources, with reserves ranking first in the province, and has the only alumina production line in Yunnan. Relying on its advantages, Wenshan Prefecture, in accordance with the industrial layout of “one engine and two bases”, plans to build three aluminum industrial parks with high standards, namely Wenshan Matang Industrial Park, Funing County Green Aluminum Industry Demonstration Park, and Yunnan Green Aluminum Innovation Industrial Park, and increases investment promotion. and speed up the construction of industrial park infrastructure and supporting service facilities to enhance the carrying capacity of the park.
“Through excellent service, emphasis on security, and large-scale investment promotion, companies such as Chinalco Group, Weiqiao Venture Group, and Shenhuo Group have successively landed.” Pang Wei, head of the Industrial Development Section of Wenshan Development and Reform Commission, said that Wenshan Prefecture has now landed an electrolytic aluminum production capacity of 343 10,000 tons, with a built capacity of 2.48 million tons, accounting for nearly one-half of the province’s production capacity.
“Wenshan electrolytic aluminum started late, but it has developed rapidly. If the 3.43 million tons of electrolytic aluminum production capacity is fully put into operation, it will require a load of about 5.7 million kilowatts. In recent years, Wenshan Prefecture has completed the construction of green aluminum park and supporting projects with an investment of 7.64 billion yuan, completed and put into operation the first phase of the 500kV Tianxing power transmission and transformation, the third phase of the 500kV Funing converter station, and the Daheishan-Matang natural gas branch line. Such major projects provide energy guarantee for the development of green aluminum industry. In the next step, Wenshan strives to build another 5 million kilowatt photovoltaic power generation project to increase the supply of clean energy and ensure the electricity demand of the green aluminum industry. At the same time, in order to meet the logistics needs of the green aluminum industry, Wenshan Prefecture is actively promoting the construction of Wenshan-Mongolia Railway, Wen-Guang Railway, three railway branches in green aluminum parks and the Pearl River Shipping Yunnan Funing Port, accelerating the formation of waterways, railways, The comprehensive transportation system with interconnected roads can effectively reduce the logistics cost of enterprises.
With the entry of leading electrolytic aluminum projects, Wenshan Prefecture has the confidence to build a green aluminum industry chain. Wenshan Prefecture aims at the downstream of the industrial chain, attracting investment in Shandong, Guangdong, Chongqing and other places, and attracting investment through business, further extending the industrial chain to aluminum deep processing and terminal product manufacturing, and realizing cluster development. “Aluminum alloys are widely used in industry, and we are planning to cooperate with some companies to convert aluminum water into high-precision products on the spot,” said Ma Yunlu, general manager of Yunnan Innovation Alloy Co., Ltd.
Since the beginning of this year, with the signing of the Yunnan Chuangge 380,000-ton automobile radiator project, Yunnan Hongyan and Yunnan Zhilu’s 400,000-ton aluminum ingot and hot rolling projects, there have been 15 downstream processing enterprises in Wenshan Aluminum, and aluminum processing projects 16, with an aluminum processing capacity of 4.38 million tons.
“Green Aluminum Valley” makes the development of the old area surging. According to statistics, the green aluminum industry in Wenshan Prefecture achieved an industrial output value of 24.5 billion yuan last year. In the first quarter of this year, the whole prefecture produced 346,300 tons of electrolytic aluminum, 378,000 tons of alumina, and 66,000 tons of aluminum alloys, achieving an industrial output value of 9.04 billion yuan. As of April 25, the state’s electrolytic aluminum production capacity was 1.951 million tons, an increase of 491,000 tons from last year’s peak of 1.46 million tons.
