“Significant Casting in Western Yunnan” – The Cultural Heritage Exhibition of Gold and Silver ware in Western Yunnan Opens

At 10 a.m. on September 9, the “Significant Impression in West Yunnan·Casting of Extraordinary Casting-Western Yunnan National Gold and Silver Artifacts Cultural Heritage Exhibition” opened at the Yunnan National Museum of Ethnic Affairs. The exhibition is led by Baoshan College and co-organized by the Yunnan Provincial Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee, Yunnan Ethnic Museum, Shanghai Industrial Art Design Association, Baoshan Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau, Inner Mongolia Art Institute and other units. It is one of the achievements of the Yunnan Provincial Ethnic Excellent Culture Protection and Inheritance Funding Project in 2025.

The opening ceremony was hosted by project leader Liu Wenting. Sha Yunsheng, a first-level researcher at the Cultural Propaganda Department of the Yunnan Provincial Ethnic and Religious Affairs Commission, Zhu Liye, director of the Yunnan Provincial Cultural Center, Zhao Fang, deputy director of the Yunnan Ethnic Museum, Yu Zongyou, a second-level researcher at the Baoshan Ethnic and Religious Affairs Bureau, Sun Pei, chairman of the Shanghai Industrial Art Design Association, and Yang Chunhua, vice president of Baoshan College, and other guests attended the event.

At the opening ceremony, Zhao Fang, deputy director of Yunnan Ethnic Museum, said in his speech that the museum has always been committed to the systematic protection and revitalization of national cultural heritage, and this exhibition is an important practice in transforming academic achievements into public cultural resources. In his speech, Sun Pei, chairman of the Shanghai Industrial Art Design Association, emphasized that school-enterprise cooperation is an important path for the innovation and transformation of traditional culture. Institutions represented by Shanghai Arts and Crafts Factory and Xiling Seal Society will actively leverage their resource and platform advantages to promote the creative design, brand building and marketing promotion of gold and silver ware culture in western Yunnan. As a project guidance expert, Professor Xu Ying of Inner Mongolia Art Institute shared his research experience in cross-regional and interdisciplinary cooperation, pointing out that this census not only makes breakthroughs in technical organization, but also has pioneering significance in theoretical construction and cultural interpretation. In his speech, Yang Chunhua, vice president of Baoshan College, said that the school will continue to deepen field surveys and the coordination of industry, academia and research, cultivate compound talents who are both knowledgeable and proficient in practice, and provide intellectual support for the inheritance and innovation of national cultural heritage.

The western Yunnan region is an important area where multi-ethnic groups live together and multi-cultural integration. With its outstanding wisdom and exquisite craftsmanship, the inhabited nations have created a rich and unique cultural heritage of gold and silver. These objects are not only the crystallization of skills and aesthetics, but also the historical witness of the exchanges and integration of various ethnic groups, carrying the cultural memory formed by the Chinese nation community.

Through the comprehensive presentation of historical context, production craftsmanship, cultural symbols and life scenes, this exhibition systematically sorts out and displays the cultural connotation and contemporary value of gold and silverware in western Yunnan. The exhibition content covers field inspection results in Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La, Baoshan, Dehong, Lincang and other places, including Bai wood grain gold craftsmanship, Tibetan silver jewelry casting skills, Dai three-dimensional hollowing shape and other craft highlights that coexist with innovation and tradition.

The exhibition will be open for free from now until October 9. Through physical objects, pictures, images, images and digital forms, it will fully display the rheology and cultural connotation of gold and silver warehousing techniques in western Yunnan, promote the integration of intangible cultural heritage into modern life, and help rural revitalization and cultural identity.
