  Shield machine is a “sharp weapon” for tunnel excavation and underground engineering construction, and is known as “the king of construction machinery”. In the 1990s, the Xikang Railway Qinling Tunnel Project spent 700 million yuan to purchase two full-section hard rock boring machines from Germany. This is the first time that modern large-scale tunnel construction equipment has been used in the construction of railway tunnels in my country. The workload was equivalent to one month of ordinary labor, which was an eye-opener for tunnel builders who were still relying on traditional manual methods.

  However, at that time, the technology of shield machine was monopolized by foreign countries. “At that time, the price of each shield machine was more than 100 million yuan, and the asking price for replacing the cutter head and spare parts was ridiculously high. What made people hit was that when the equipment broke down, we had to spend additional money. Money asked foreign experts to repair. The shield machine has become their ‘money printing machine’.” This made Li Jianbin realize that China’s high-end underground equipment independent innovation is urgent!

  In 2001, Li Jianbin served as the project manager and formed a research and development team with only 18 young people. In 2002, he took the lead in undertaking the 863 program of the Ministry of Science and Technology on the research and application of key shield technology. The project team has no technology, no guidance, many people have not even seen a physical shield, and everything is starting from scratch.

  In the past 6 years, Li Jianbin led the shield R&D team, starting from the basic principles, and gradually overcame dozens of technical problems in mechanical, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and other fields, and “build up the machine” step by step through scientific and technological research. In 2008, my country’s first composite shield machine with independent property rights – “China Railway No. 1” finally rolled off the assembly line in Xinxiang, Henan, and was successfully applied to the Tianjin Metro Line 3 project, breaking the “foreign shield” in one fell swoop. myth!

  In 2012, the design of the Malaysian shield was completed, realizing the substantial leap of “Chinese shield” to go abroad and to the world; in 2020, the 1,000th shield machine was successfully rolled off the assembly line… As the chief designer, Li Jianbin relies on “independent innovation, Actively seeking change”, the shield machine designed by him has been used in more than 40 cities and regions in China, and has been exported to 29 countries and regions including Singapore, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Italy, etc., and more than 50 sets of shield machine equipment are serving along the “Belt and Road”. The country’s infrastructure construction provides Chinese equipment, Chinese solutions, and Chinese wisdom for the world’s rail transit construction.

  In recent years, Li Jianbin has led his team to continuously overcome core technical problems, firmly grasp the technical commanding heights of tunnel boring machines, constantly refresh the records created by shield equipment, and practice the leap from “Made in China” to “Created in China” .
