Create a “spiritual melting pot” for the growth of Tsing Ma students

“Why did Wang Jie throw himself at the explosive pack without hesitation at the moment of the test of life and death?” In the Wang Jie Memorial Hall in Jinxiang County, Jining City, Shandong Province, with the instructor's explanation, Qingma students from Shandong Polytechnic Vocational College pondered over the martyr Wang Jie's diary and old photos in the display cabinet. These historical materials helped everyone reproduce the touching details of the hero Wang Jie's life, and answered Wang Jie's choice at the critical moment of life and death through time and space.

In 2024, the ideological and political course video “Running in the Same Red River” created based on the reflections and experiences of the school's Qingma students, aroused hot comments from netizens on the short video platform, with more than 100,000 likes. At the same time, it won the third prize nationally in the 7th National Open Class Exhibition of Ideological and Political Courses for College Students.

The school integrated the Qingma Project into the overall layout of “cultivating people with moral integrity”, established a dual-track mechanism of “centralized training + follow-up training”, and formed a four-dimensional curriculum system of “theoretical learning + research practice + volunteer service + debate and discussion”. This system takes the education of ideals and beliefs as the core, focuses on the cultivation of practical abilities, and takes the shaping of innovative spirit as the key to comprehensively improve the comprehensive quality of Qingma students.

The beacon of thought illuminates the road to growth

The success of “Running in the Same Red River” is no accident. The school has been trying to innovate to “break the circle” of theoretical learning and make Marxist beliefs truly “alive” in the hearts of young people.

In addition to the “ideological and political courses in the venue” model, the school also innovatively launched the “three debate” learning model of “debate theory, debate hot spots, and debate practice”. The regularly held “Qingma Thinking Conference” has become the “main battlefield” for ideological collision on campus.

Here, there are no standard answers. The students compete in groups around topics such as “Youth's Responsibility in Rural Revitalization” and “New Energy Technology Innovation and Green Development”. Sometimes they argue over a point of view, but in the collision of ideas, they deepen their understanding of the theory and develop the hard skills of dialectical thinking.

The “Qing Ma Micro Group Class” competition was another lively scene. In 2025, in the competition with the theme of “New ideas lead new journeys, new youths contribute to the new era”, the trainees “showed off their unique talents”: some brought community volunteer services to the podium, and used sitcoms to “resolve neighborhood conflicts” to vividly interpret people-centered development ideas; Some used drones to take aerial photos of the new campus, and compared the modern teaching buildings and sports fields in the shots with old photos from 10 years ago, making the “new era changes” visible and tangible; others brought 3D-printed red cultural relic models to demonstrate and tell the revolutionary stories behind them.

Zhao Quanquan, a student who participated in the competition, said: “The process of preparing for the micro-group class is also a process for me to re-understand the theory and strengthen my beliefs. Now I am more willing to take the initiative to share these insights with the classmates around me.”

Practice hard skills on the front line

“Don't be afraid, kids, let's 'measure your height' like a game, okay?” At a community activity center in Jining over the weekend, Chen Xiaoyu, a student from Tsing Ma, wore a red vest with “Tsing Ma Volunteers” printed on it. She squatted on the ground and used cartoon stickers to comfort the nervous children, while the students next to her were carefully adjusting the spinal measuring instrument.

This is a daily scene of the school's “Operation Child and Adolescent Scoliosis Health Screening Project”, and it is also the epitome of Tsing Ma students' professional service to society. According to statistics, in the past three years, Qingma students from Shandong Polytechnic Vocational College have volunteered for more than 8,000 hours.

In this school, volunteer service is never just “physical effort”, but an in-depth integration of “professional + practice”. There are currently 17 registered volunteer service teams on campus, covering multiple fields and carrying out more than 600 activities on average every year.

The “'Rescue' at Your Side” team from the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics brings professional first aid equipment to communities and schools, teaching residents step-by-step CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, and even simulating earthquake and fire scenarios, allowing everyone to master emergency avoidance skills in practice; the “Medical Road Accompanying” team from the School of Health and Wellness of Traditional Chinese Medicine uses traditional Chinese medicine techniques such as massage and auricular acupuncture to relieve neck and shoulder pain for the elderly in the community. It also compiles a “Family Traditional Chinese Medicine Health Care Handbook” to deliver health knowledge to their doorsteps.

Qingma students also have the additional status of “part-time league cadres” and use this status to work at the grassroots level.

“Looking at the strawberries in the greenhouse being sold across the country through e-commerce platforms, the moment the farmers gave us a thumbs up, I suddenly felt that all the hard work was worth it! This gives me a sense of accomplishment more than any certificate. It is a 'Practice Medal' that truly belongs to us.” Liu Fengshu, a Qingma trainee who participated in rural services, said excitedly.

Red practice is also an inseparable “compulsory course”.

Relying on Jining's rich red resources, the school has established multiple red education practice bases in conjunction with the “Menglianggu Battle Memorial Hall” and “Railway Guerrillas Memorial Hall” to organize Qingma students to carry out study activities: review the oath of joining the league in front of the martyrs' monument, listen to revolutionary stories in the historical exhibition hall, and experience the patriotism and fighting spirit of industrial workers in the new era through cases such as “BYD Vertical Integration Model” and “Hongqi Automobile Industry Development History” in the “Red Craftsman Spirit” class.

“Watching the trainees go from being 'moved' to 'taking the initiative', from 'understanding theory' to 'being able to do it', this scene made us deeply realize that the Qingma Project is not a simple 'ideological training', but a 'spiritual melting pot' for the growth of young people.” said Su Guangyu, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of the school.

  Whole-chain training helps joints grow

“This is my 'trap-avoidance guide' for the three years since I started my business. When juniors start a business, they must research the market demand in advance…” At the “Qingma Student Speaks” sharing session, graduated Qingma student Wang Yi took a thick “Entrepreneurship Diary” and frankly shared his experience with the juniors.

The sharing platform is like a “gas station for growth” for students. So far, more than 30 sharing sessions have been carried out in classes and clubs, and more than 2,000 students have drawn strength from the exchange of stories. “I used to think that entrepreneurship was a 'one-person battle', but here I can not only pass on my experience, but also find new directions from everyone's questions,” Wang Yi said.

In order to allow every Qingma student to “grow together”, the school has innovatively established a “three-follow” training mechanism of “following thoughts, following learning, and following development”, and customized a dynamic growth file for each graduating student: it not only contains ideological reports, academic achievements, but also “growth notes” from teachers who visit regularly.

The school also incorporates the honors of Qingma students into the “Smart Team Building” digital system. Data such as volunteer service hours, competition awards, and ideological performance are updated in real time. This is not only an important basis for evaluating the best and recommending the best to join the party, but also makes the growth of students “visible and promising.”

In recent years, more than 30 Qingma trainees have taken up key positions as student cadres at the campus and campus levels, more than 20 have joined the Party with honor, and more than 10 have received corporate internship opportunities through school recommendations. In competitions at all levels, trainees have won a total of 123 awards, covering areas such as innovation and entrepreneurship, skills competitions, and ideological and political presentations. The atmosphere of “learning by example and being a role model” has also driven nearly a thousand students across the school to actively participate in volunteer services and skills competitions. The demonstration effect of the Qingma Project continues to be highlighted.

“Youth are the most active and energetic force in the entire society, and the Qingma Project is to serve as a 'leading light' for the growth of young people.” Li Hongwen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shandong Polytechnic Vocational College, said, “We must not only lead the ideological direction of young people, but also build a platform at every step of students' growth to temper their excellent character and improve their practical ability.”
